Section06 — Construction Notes
Note5mm topstitch throughout · Navy self-colour · Lockstitch
Section 06
Construction Notes
General
5mm topstitch on all visible external seams, pocket edges, placket and collar stand. Thread: navy self-colour. Single needle lockstitch. Min. 12 stitches per 3cm. All shell seams pressed open and flat.
Lining
Fully bagged-out construction. Quilted silk lining with British wool wadding throughout body and sleeves. Diamond quilt pattern. Lining attached at facing edges, hem and sleeve hem. No visible hand stitching externally.
Hem
Turned-up facing hem in shell wool. No elastic, drawstring or ribbing. Construction reference: denim or trucker jacket hem facing. Topstitched 5mm from edge.
Seam Allowance
1.5cm throughout unless otherwise stated on pattern. Shell seams pressed open. Pressing with damp cloth on wool setting.
Cuffs
External cuff finished in shell wool — no visible ribbing externally. Antique brass snap on each cuff gives the appearance of a functioning opening cuff, but cuff does not open. Hidden internal storm cuff in 2×1 organic cotton rib, navy, attached to a silk lining strip which is in turn attached to the inside of the wool cuff — not directly to the wool. This reduces bulk at the cuff seam and allows the rib to move independently within the cuff. Storm cuff not visible externally. Topstitch 5mm on outer cuff edge.
Storm Placket
Self-fabric wool placket behind main zip. Completely concealed when zip is fully closed. Decorative zig-zag profile topstitch on visible face only. Topstitch 5mm, navy. Visible only when zip is open.
Main Zip
Rubi Star No. 8, two-way open end, old brass, satin tape. Two sliders in opposing directions — opens from hem upward and neck downward simultaneously. Confirm slider spec with Rubi Zippers prior to bulk.
Patch Pockets — External
Constructed as independent closed bag with flap before application. Applied to shell on three sides only: (1) top edge where flap attaches, (2) inner vertical edge nearest zip, (3) bottom edge. Outer side edge left entirely unstitched — creates side-entry access gap. Flap attached at top only. Two hidden antique brass snaps per flap — one at each corner, set in 1.5cm from the corner edge. Snaps not visible externally when flap is closed. 5mm topstitch on stitched edges.
Internal Pockets
Two vertical access welt pockets, one each side. Pocket bag in unquilted silk matching lining. No zip or button closure. Factory to confirm welt width prior to sampling.
Shearling Collar
Natural shearling, detachable. Collar points slide into self-fabric wool triangles at each end of collar stand. Single 15mm horn button on collar underside at CB. Corresponding hand-worked thread bar tack on interior of stand — flat and flush. No hardware against neck.

Pocket
Construction
Detail
APocket bag constructed as an independent closed bag with flap before any application to the shell. Fully self-contained at this stage.
BTwo hidden antique brass snaps per pocket flap — one at each corner of the flap, set in 1.5cm from each corner edge. Snaps not visible externally when the flap is closed. Manufacturer TBC.
CPocket flap attached at top edge only. Opens downward for vertical hand entry. Snap is the sole fastening — no additional button or magnet.
DPocket bag applied to shell on three sides only: top edge (where flap attaches), inner vertical edge nearest to zip, and bottom edge.
EOuter side edge — towards the side seam — left entirely unstitched. Creates a gap between the pocket face and the shell fabric for side-entry access.
F5mm topstitch on all three stitched edges. The unstitched outer edge must remain clean — no topstitch or edge finishing that would close the gap.
N.B. — Non-standard construction. Factory must not stitch the outer edge closed. The side-entry gap is intentional and functional. Review with sample maker before toile.

Collar
Attachment
ANatural shearling collar, fully detachable. Shearling face outward. Constructed as a complete component before attachment system is applied.
BSelf-fabric wool triangles sewn at each end of the jacket collar stand — one at each collar point. Interfaced and topstitched at 5mm.
CTo attach: each collar point slides horizontally into its corresponding triangle pocket toward the collar stand centre.
DSingle 15mm natural horn button sewn to the underside of the shearling collar at centre back. Faces downward — away from neck at all times.
EHand-worked thread bar tack on the interior of the jacket collar stand at centre back. Flat and flush with lining — not felt against neck.
FWhen fully attached: collar points seated in triangles, CB button engaged with thread bar. Button fully concealed. No hardware contacts the wearer's neck.
N.B. — Thread bar tack must be hand-worked and lie completely flat. QC: collar attached and detached minimum 10 times to test integrity before sign-off.

Storm Cuff Detail
AExternal cuff finished in shell wool fabric. Antique brass snap gives the appearance of a functioning opening cuff externally. The cuff does not actually open — the snap is decorative in function.
BHidden internal storm cuff in 2×1 organic cotton rib, navy. The storm cuff is first attached to a silk lining strip (matching lining, unquilted). That strip is then attached to the inside of the wool cuff — not directly to the wool.
CThis two-stage attachment reduces bulk at the cuff seam and allows the rib to move independently within the cuff as the hand passes through. Not visible externally in any natural arm position.
DTopstitch 5mm on outer cuff edge. Top and bottom cuff points must align with sleeve seam.

Section 09b
Storm Placket Detail
ASelf-fabric wool storm placket sits directly behind the main zip. Provides wind and weather protection behind the zip line.
BWhen the zip is fully closed, the placket is completely concealed. Visible only when the jacket is open.
CDecorative zig-zag profile topstitch runs along the visible face of the placket. Topstitch: 5mm, navy self-colour.
DZig-zag is a surface decoration only — does not affect structural integrity. Spacing and amplitude to be agreed at toile stage.

ELining attached at facing edges and hem. Sleeve lining finished cleanly at storm cuff silk strip attachment point.
